Larsen Howie takes on the BIBA Hackathon 2019
15th May 2019
Larsen Howie is currently taking part in the BIBA Hackathon 2019 as part of the Kingsbridge Group. The team features Nathan Halsey, Stuart Bell and Simon Wilkinson from Kingsbridge Contractor Insurance, John Clarke from Kingsbridge Insurance Brokers, Ed Woodcock from Dinghy, and Larsen Howie’s very own IR35 Consultancy Manager, Matt Tyler.
Insurance industry experts come together at BIBA
The team has joined several other groups from insurance, finance and tech backgrounds to hack out some innovative solutions to modern problems across the industry.
Playing as part of the Blue team, the Kingsbridge Group has been given the challenge ‘Information Overload’. Brokers have to deal with a huge amount of information every day; from ERNs, referred quotes and policy documents to legislation changes and available products on the market, it can be difficult to juggle all of the details needed to find the best policy for the customer. The team have until 4pm to come up with a way to help insurance brokers effectively manage this information overload.
Other challenges to be solved include how everyday interactions could be super-charged between broker and insurer and what better ways could be implemented to help customers avoid over-insurance. There is a total of 8 teams taking part, all made up of industry experts, so competition is fierce.
BIBA encourages innovation through Hackathon
BIBA has supplied roving app-building, UX and coding experts to help the teams create demos of their ideas, as well as a dedicated ‘Hack Zone’ – a purpose-build ideas box in the Central Foyer - where spectators can watch the action unfold throughout the day.
With the help of the roving experts, the Kingsbridge Group will bring their solution to life to present to a panel of judges – including Nick Houghton of JM Glendinning Group and Steve White, Chief Executive of BIBA - this evening. From this private judging, three teams will be selected to present their ideas in a ‘hackathon session’ to an audience tomorrow morning, who will then vote for their favourite idea to crown the winner of the BIBA Hackathon 2019.
BIBA is on a long-term campaign to demystify innovation for brokers and help their members stay relevant in a changing world. Their goal is to bring fresh thinking, new techniques and interesting tech into focus and within reach through the Hackathon.
